1.5: MEMORY HINTS

The following table summarizes the four calls. Each involves a pair of dancers doing a very simple action.

  • For two of them, the pairs are the ends with their adjacent centers.
  • For the other two, the centers work with each other.

  • For two of them the action is an Arm Turn 1/2 (or a Trade).
  • For the other two, the action is to move sideways past each other "nose to nose".

It may help to remember that Swing Thru from a right-handed wave (and Left Swing Thru from a left-handed wave) begins with a Swing.

The action of Slide is like a sliding door.

Some people find it helpful to note that "swings and slides are found outside" (in a playground), so the calls Swing and Slide are done with the "outside" hand.
