3.1: SPLIT SQUARE THRU
It starts with two dancers facing each other, and another couple facing them from the side. (Which is exactly what you have after the most common case of Ends Bend -- these two calls are often used together.) The two who are facing do the first right pull-by and turn to face the others, then everybody continues with a left pull-by as in an ordinary Square Thru. As with Square Thru, this can be followed by a number of hands. The people who were originally facing do that number of hands -- the others do one fewer. There is also Left Split Square Thru, where the facing dancers start with their left hands and then everybody continues with their right hands.
