2: PRINCIPLES

The basic idea of counter rotate is that everybody in a formation moves a certain amount around a center point, while at the same time turning the same amount.

Looking at this in more detail, we can identify the following features of any counter rotate:

1) There is a center point around which everybody is moving.

2) Everybody moves in a circular path around that center point. Another way of saying the same thing is that as they move, everybody stays the same distance from the center point.

3) Everybody moves around the center point the same portion of a circle (e.g., 1/4 of a circle).

4) Everybody turns the same fraction of a circle that they move (e.g., if they move 1/4 of the way around the circle, they also turn 1/4).
