7.2: FACING IN OR OUT WITHIN YOUR FORMATION
The calls 1/4 In and 1/4 Out tell the dancers to turn 1/4 toward or away from the center of their own local formation. In most cases they mean the same thing as turning 1/4 toward or away from your partner.
But they can also be used in cases where there are no partners. For example, in a diamond, 1/4 In would mean that everybody should turn 1/4 toward the middle of the diamond.
The difference between the "In" of 1/4 In and the "In" of Pass In (toward the center of the whole square) is very important, because for some dancers they will often be different. It usually takes some practice to learn to quickly turn in the correct direction on these calls.
