This "quick tutorial" introduces the general idea of a call and explains the most common cases. It does not explain or illustrate all cases. For additional details and/or examples, refer to the links in the "MORE INFO" box.
Facing dancers do an Allemande Right by taking right arms and turning halfway around and stepping thru, ending back to back.
Allemande Right can also be done when all of the dancers are already holding right hands, such as in parallel ocean waves, an alamo ring, or a right-handed thar. They all turn by the right an appropriate amount and step thru, ending back to back.
Regardless of how they start, they should end the action facing another dancer, forming a circle around the center of the set. Typically all the girls will be facing promenade direction and the boys facing reverse promenade direction, and the next call will often be Allemande Left.
