This "quick tutorial" introduces the general idea of a call and explains the most common cases. It does not explain or illustrate all cases. For additional details and/or examples, refer to the links in the "MORE INFO" box.
From a formation with one couple standing in front of another, both facing out of the square, First Couple Go ..., Next Couple Go ... means that each couple turns, as a unit, in the specified direction, left or right.
If two different directions are named, for example "First Couple Go Left, Next Couple Go Right", then the couples will be turning opposite directions, away from each other, and unless the caller says otherwise they should each turn halfway around, to face the couples from the other side of the square, and the result will be facing lines.
If the same direction is named for both the first couple and the second couple, for example "First Couple Go Left, Next Couple Go Left", then the second couple follows the first couple, and the next call will usually be some form of Promenade.
