This "quick tutorial" introduces the general idea of a call and explains the most common cases. It does not explain or illustrate all cases. For additional details and/or examples, refer to the links in the "MORE INFO" box.
To do a right or left Arm Turn, two dancers who are facing join forearms and turn around each other some amount. Dancers can also start this action if they are already in a mini-wave of the appropriate handedness, in which case they will normally turn using whatever handhold they already have.
The amount to turn may be given as a fraction (e.g., "Right Arm Turn 3/4") or with reference to the direction they should be facing or what should happen next (e.g., "Turn Your Partner by the Right come back and Allemande Left Your Corner"). If no next action is given, the two dancers remain in a mini-wave.
