This "quick tutorial" introduces the general idea of a call and explains the most common cases. It does not explain or illustrate all cases. For additional details and/or examples, refer to the links in the "MORE INFO" box.
From facing dancers, Pull By means to extend right hands to each other, as if they were going to shake hands, gently pull each other forward, drop hands as they walk past each other, and end back to back.
They must drop hands soon enough that they don't pull each other "off course", because they are supposed to end up standing directly back to back.
The end result is the same as a Pass Thru (in which dancers pass by without touching hands).
If dancers in facing couples do a Pull By, then they will end in two couples directly back to back.
Left Pull By is the same action done with left hands.
This action is not often called separately by name, but is an essential component of many other calls, e.g., Right and Left Grand (which consists of alternating Right and Left Pull Bys), Right and Left Thru, and Square Thru.
