This "quick tutorial" introduces the general idea of a call and explains the most common cases. It does not explain or illustrate all cases. For additional details and/or examples, refer to the links in the "MORE INFO" box.
If dancers are directed to go Forward and Back, they simply step forward a few steps and then back up a few steps. This is most commonly called from facing lines, as a way to make sure everybody is neatly lined up for the next call, but it can also be directed to facing couples, or individual facing dancers, or a circle of eight dancers who are facing inward.
