This "quick tutorial" introduces the general idea of a call and explains the most common cases. It does not explain or illustrate all cases. For additional details and/or examples, refer to the links in the "MORE INFO" box.
In general, the four dancers closest to the middle of the square are called centers. The others are referred to as ends.
These terms are also used to refer to dancers within a four-person group.
Note that In the case of parallel lines (including parallel waves), the centers of each line will also be the centers of the entire eight-person formation.
If the eight-person formation consists of one four-person formation inside another, for example a wave inside a box, then the dancers of the inside formation are considered the centers of the entire formation.
