This "quick tutorial" introduces the general idea of a call and explains the most common cases. It does not explain or illustrate all cases. For additional details and/or examples, refer to the links in the "MORE INFO" box.
Brace Thru is a variation on Right and Left Thru. It is usually done from a normal couple (boy on the left) facing a half-sashayed couple (girl on the left). Everybody does a right pull-by, and the normal couple then does a Courtesy Turn. For them, the action is exactly the same as a Right and Left Thru. But the dancers in the half-sashayed couple individually U-Turn Back, toward each other, which changes them into a normal couple.
After a Brace Thru all the couples should be "normal". Callers will sometimes use this call to "fix" squares where the boys and girls have gotten accidentally switched.
Note: This call was formerly known as Half Breed Thru. (The name was changed because some people considered the words "half breed" in the name to be offensive.) You may hear it called either way -- the action is exactly the same.
