Cloverleaf is done from a "completed double pass thru" formation. Everybody turns away from their hand-hold, with the dancers on the left going left and the dancers on the right going right. Everybody turns 3/4, in a big loop, like the ramp of a highway cloverleaf. The dancers on the end, in front, lead this action, with the trailers following behind them.
Note that the original ends become the new centers, and the original centers become the new ends. If the dancers start facing head walls, they finish facing side walls, and vice versa.
